Tales from the Crips
Reimagined Fairy Tales with a Disabled Lens
Nov 8 + 9, 2024, 8pm EST

livestreamed and live from the Strand Theatre, 543 Columbia Road, Boston, MA

This show was inspired by “Disfigured” by Amanda Leduc who we’re honored is flying from Toronto to come to this performance and give an opening reading to invite us into reimagining diverse voices within classic fairy tales. We are reimagining Snow White and Endo (disabled comrade), Mulan, Maiden (without hands), Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Little Mermaid. We invite the audience to join us with live music, aerial art, and more! If you can’t make the livestream, totally fine. We’ll leave it up for a few days just for you. But you still gotta register!

Here’s some know before you go show FAQ for access and other relevant information.

Here’s the word doc version of the program. Here’s a fancy version of the program, created by Lizbeth Romero.

Check out costume image descriptions by our amazing costume designer Sky Cubacub of Rebirth Garments in Chicago, IL.

Check out scene description: The stage is framed by a large portal with a round opening. Around the gold opening are painted bookshelves. Many of the shelves are filled with painted books and other shelves have scenes that can be from stories. There is a small painted house with stars in the sky, trees and a moon, the moon over the sea, castles and a secret door. Through the portal there are 5 tall forms that can be interpreted as trees or seaweed. They are painted in shades of green and blue and yellow. Behind everything is a low profile of a wave meeting the hills. It is painted in washes of blue and green.
